Hi Patrick - funny you should mention this. We will be launching our new book club program a little later on this year.

As a community program, we will be using the Critical Path blog to share more information about upcoming book club activities, so be sure to watch for news there!

Hey, Danielle. Have you had any luck getting the book club going? https://www.pmevolution.com/bookclub/ is picking up speed and is involved with 3 local PMI chapters now. If we can join forces to keep this momentum going I'd be glad to talk about it!

Hi, Danielle. Glad to hear it! Do you all have a projected launch date or initial title yet?

If I can be of any assistance, please let me know. I'm happy to share what I learn with the PM Evolution book club and help promote. I'm trying to do a book a month so I'm eager to see if that's ambitious for the always busy PM or if every other month or quarterly would be better.

There used to be a great online book club led by Thomas Kennedy http://thepmcoach.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/pmbc.html but that ended some time ago - the challenge being, as described by Thomas, 'to get the level of participation that I desired'. Might be worth a read of the comment thread to see why this initiative failed.

Hi George,

Due to very low usage of the e-reads program, PMI discontinued this offering on 31 January 2016. The titles are still available for purchase through PMI's Bookstore, if you are looking for a particular book. The e-reads program was initially established to provide PMI members free access to content not made available through other PMI programs.

The growth of our online community, however, provides access to a wealth of relevant and timely content, with over 1200 webinars, 1000+ articles, and a full repository of practitioner-generated templates for download by PMI and Premium members. We believe that the quality, relevance, accessibility and selection of content made available through the online community provides value for our members, and we will continue to ensure that we maintain this repository through your contributions and suggestions.

Hi Patrick,

Yes, we are launching our book club in a couple of weeks. We will be announcing our first book and author in mid-March, so stay posted!

We are also planning to reach out to our chapter network, to support the linkage between our local and global communities. Maybe we can connect offline to see where we might be able to find synergies.

Hi Danielle,
Thanks for letting us know. My Project Management Office started a book club and we were going to use books through e-reads. It's good to know it is not longer offered.

I do like all the webinars, articles, and templates!

I feel really sad to hear that. It was one of the reason I happily joined the community. Of course there are other reasons too. The fact is that the link was not easy to find, this is the main reason why it wasn't accessed so much. Many people had no idea that such an opportunity existed. Too bad it's gone.

Hi Aimee,

You might consider piggy-backing on the book club that we will be starting in March, as a way to help manage the coordination of your PMO's book club. We will announce the author and book, and post a video by the author that touches on the themes of the book as a kick-off for our book club program. The initial video and discussion thread will be open to the public, so that anyone may participate in the overall discussion. We will then lift questions from the thread for the author to address in his closing webinar, which will be limited to PMI members to join.

In this way, you can host your own localized discussion, contribute to the global discussion, and interact with the author during the webinar.

I hope this helps you in your planning. Please let me know if there is anything you would like to know about our program as you plan your own.
