It’s hard to imagine how far things might go in a century. If we think about the last 100 years, we moved from typewriters to cloud computing, from telegrams to instant video calls. So what comes next? Will we see projects managed by AI partners, work delivered through space-based infrastructure, or tools we can’t even dream of yet?

What are your predictions for how technology, tools, and delivery models will shape projects 100 years from now?

2125: Three Futures for Project Management
It’s hard to predict 100 years ahead, but it’s essential to imagine, strategically.
Here are three possible futures for our profession:

1. Realistic Scenario – Evolution Through Technology
Projects are AI-enhanced, data-driven, and continuously adaptive.
PMs work with intelligent systems to optimize delivery, but still face ethical dilemmas, global complexity, and stakeholder misalignment.

2. Optimistic Scenario – Regenerative Leadership at Scale
Projects become engines of global regeneration.
Purpose guides all delivery. AI is not just a tool, but a trusted ethical partner.
PMs lead with empathy, system thinking, and collective wisdom. Every project creates long-term value, for people, planet, and generations.

3. Pessimistic Scenario – Hyper-Speed, No Purpose
Projects run faster than ever, but with no time to reflect.
AI dominates decisions. Human meaning is lost.
Burnout increases.
Delivery is efficient, but empty.
A wake-up call for rehumanizing the discipline.

The future is not fixed.
But imagining it helps us lead it, not just survive it.

Thinking ahead to 2125 is fascinating. I imagine projects will no longer be bound by geography, teams may collaborate across Earth, space stations, or even lunar/planetary bases. AI will likely serve as co-managers, handling predictive scheduling, compliance, and resource allocation, while humans focus on ethics, vision, and creativity. Delivery models might rely on autonomous robotics and quantum-enhanced communication networks. Still, the essence of project management, aligning people around a goal, will remain, even if the tools and environments are radically transformed.
