In markets where speed is valued over perfection, how should PMs redefine ‘quality’?

Traditionally, quality has meant compliance with requirements and zero defects. But in today’s markets, speed to market often matters more than perfection. Is “quality” now about learning fast, iterating with customers, and resilience under pressure? Or does redefining quality risk lowering standards and credibility? How are PMs balancing this in practice?

Quality is still about meeting approved requirements. The difference is the relative priority of requirements and which are considered "must have" vs "nice to have" at a given point in time.

Thank you, Lissette. How valuable to have you in this conversation. Your insight brings depth and sensitivity, and reminds us that behind every framework or process there are people looking for meaning.
I remember a mentoring session where a professional told me: "I feel I do everything right, but I don't connect with my team". He didn't need more tools, he needed to find his purpose again. Accompanying him in this reflection transformed his leadership.
Let's continue to build spaces where strategy and human well-being go hand in hand.

No need to redefine quality. What you ask is inside quality theory itself.
