Will agile rituals (stand-ups, retrospectives) survive in AI-managed teams?

If AI can optimize workflows and flag issues in real time, do humans still need rituals like stand-ups and retrospectives? Or do these ceremonies serve a deeper purpose, like fostering trust, empathy, and shared ownership, that technology simply can't replicate?

This leans into what I believe most strongly: the human touch remains crucial. Managing people, navigating conflict, and handling emotions require more than algorithms; they demand presence, nuance, and connection.

You have already answered it beautifully: while AI can streamline tasks and surface insights, the human touch, elements such as presence, empathy, and connection is irreplaceable. =P

I agree, AI can optimise tasks, but it can’t replace the human side of project management. Stand-ups and retrospectives aren’t just about updates; they build trust, empathy, and shared ownership. The human touch remains essential for connection and collaboration.

I would say that there is no such thing as an "AI-managed" team. There are teams which leverage AI tools to be more effective or efficient but we are a long way off from a team of humans being managed by an AI capability.

And the real question about agile events (I don't use the term "ritual" as that perpetuates the view of agile as a "cult") is not about whether a technology change affects their value but whether the team gets value from them to begin with.
