When stepping into a new project—especially with unfamiliar stakeholders or a newly formed team—building trust early can make or break delivery success. In my experience, strong communication and quick wins help, but every environment is different.
I’d love to hear your perspectives:
--- What actions do you take in the first 30 days to establish credibility?
--- How do you approach trust-building with difficult or skeptical stakeholders?
--- Are there specific practices you’ve found effective for teams that haven’t worked together before?

Let’s share strategies that can help project managers hit the ground running with confidence.

"Clarity precedes success"
People place trust in our words, actions, and judgment. When we begin a project with a clear intention and follow it up with well-defined actions—such as establishing effective communication channels, creating a solid plan, and taking consistent steps—you naturally build credibility.

Great topic, trust really sets the tone for everything that follows.

In the first month, I focus on a few simple things:

* Show up and follow through: Even small commitments matter early on. When people see you practice what you preach, trust builds fast.

* Listen before acting: Every team has its own dynamics. Taking time to understand them earns more respect than rushing in with solutions.

* Be clear and transparent: When people know what’s happening and why, even the skeptical ones start to open up.

And if the team is new, I try to create a quick shared win early. It gives everyone a sense of progress and builds momentum together.

Listening is important like Lissette Indhira Pimentel Sosa said, "listen more than you speak". As they say, you have one mouth and two ears so you should listen twice as much as you speak! But Trust is feeling!! As Pham Van Phuong said, "You are not just “hearing” them but genuinely caring about their concerns." This builds trust the quickest! It requires a high level of EQ!!
