For me, building a strong network has been about genuine relationships, not transactions. I focus on being curious, staying consistent, and showing up for people even when I don’t need anything. Small gestures, sharing resources, checking in, or offering help, go a long way.

My advice for others:

Lead with value. Give before you ask.Be real and be curious. People remember how you make them feel.Follow up. A quick thank-you or check-in builds trust.Stay open. Great connections often come from unexpected places.Overall, networking is a long game, built on authenticity, not volume.

What’s helped me most in building my network is staying open-minded and genuinely curious about people, not just what they do. I try to ask real questions, listen, and look for small ways to follow up or stay connected. My advice is to be yourself, stay curious, and focus on building real relationships instead of just adding contacts. It makes networking feel natural instead of forced.

being open minded and vulnerable by telling people I meet about my journey, and actively allowing myself to learn about theirs. In my experience this has sparked conversations that has left my network and myself feeling energized and has been rewarding.

networking is hard for an introvert. Step outside your comfort zone and give people a chance to surprise you!

I agree. I have found that showing up is a huge first step. From there, you may have interesting interactions or not, but you will not have any if you do not seek out opportunities and show up

Get involved, join your local club, PMI charter and show up. Keep on showing up, interact and make friends.

Be curious and for all of the extroverted PMs out there like myself, bring a list of ice breaker questions to help keep the conversation going.

What do you like to do on the weekends?
What made you interested to attend this event?
What drew you to this industry?
How long have you been in this industry?
Be curious about those you interact with, and don’t be afraid to engage in a conversation with someone new! :)

Don’t be shy and make the first move to introduce yourself! Most people would like to talk about themselves and give advice. Always grab a linkedin or business card and follow up with a thank you to build that connection

Ask questions! Why and how they got to where they are. Or a fun fact about why they enjoy the position.

I watched the Indy 500, and I was thinking that if they left earlier they wouldn't have to go so fast.
