What has been most effective when building your network?  What recommendations would you share with others who are building their networks?

Getting out of your shell and actually talking to folks is the most effective method I feel. You never know what you have in common with others.

I relate to this a lot. I can talk but it is definitely something I’ve had to work hard to develop over the years.

The most effective strategy I have had to network is by asking an ice breaker question such as when did you first get into project management. Don’t be shy is my best recommendation as project management as our profession is based on stakeholder engagement and if your an introvert this will be a hard career for you.

As an introvert, a list of ice breakers is super helpful for keeping the conversation going.

What has helped me is putting myself in unique situations and meeting people while in those situations. For example, signing up for pilates classes, run club, etc. You never know who these people are and what other people they know!

For me, getting out of my comfort zone and being open minded! Has really helped with building my network.

Hello
Building my network has been most effective when I’m intentional about genuine relationships rather than just collecting contacts. I’d recommend following up and showing up where you can add value.

Being curious and being open minded. Ask questions and try to explain your opinions and ideas. Don’t be afraid to talk to someone new!

What’s helped me most in building my network is staying open-minded and genuinely curious about people, not just what they do. I try to ask real questions, listen, and look for small ways to follow up or stay connected. My advice is to be yourself, stay curious, and focus on building real relationships instead of just adding contacts. It makes networking feel natural instead of forced.
