When the time comes to hang up your hard hat as a PM, what do you want your PMI legacy to be? For me, my goal is to groom at least one community member in each remote Indigenous First Nation community in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. What’s yours? I won’t die with it; I will pass it to the next generation. Saving Changes...

Akin Fadare This is such a meaningful reflection.
Legacy in project management isn’t defined by the projects we deliver.
It’s defined by the people and communities who continue to grow because of them.
Your goal to empower local members in remote Indigenous communities is a beautiful embodiment of stewardship: leaving behind capability, not dependency.
For me, my PMI legacy is about cultivating regenerative leadership, helping project professionals lead with conscience, clarity, and continuity, so that impact remains even when we’re no longer in the room.
Because real legacy isn’t what we achieve, it’s what we enable.
that’s a truly inspiring goal. My legacy wish is to mentor young professionals to see project management not just as delivery, but as stewardship—building systems, people, and habits that outlast us. If even a few carry that forward, I’d consider it a legacy worth leaving.

Pavan Maddi, that is a very commendable legacy you have. I’m sure Buona Vista is lucky to have you, a great ambassador of the PMI community. Keep it up. I will check in a few years to see how far you have gone and hopefully share our legacies and contributions..

Beautiful reflection, Akin. For me, my PMI legacy would be about helping others see project management as more than delivery, as a way to create meaningful impact and empower teams. I hope to pass on a mindset of empathy, adaptability, and continuous learning to the next generation of PMs.

Lissette Indhira Pimentel Sosa That is very thoughtful of you. Empathetic attribute is not common these days. I also love the mindset of continuous lifelong learning. Thanks for sharing.

For me it would have been volunteering with PMI since 1999 including:
- Participating in 3 PMP exam item writing sessions
- Contributing to multiple practice guides and standards
- Mentoring many practitioners
- Serving as a director of my local Chapter for six years
- Answering questions daily in this (and previously LinkedIn's PMI-focused) community
- Blogging for almost 15 straight years on a weekly basis about the profession & publishing a book based on the best articles I'd written
At this point, I'm ready to let the next generation of folks take over and will be stepping away gracefully.
You have really made a massive impact in the PMI community. The organization is lucky to have you. I look forward to learning from a vet like you. Please, if you will be attending the Global Submit in Phoenix, I would like to meet and greet. Thank you for your contribution.

Thanks Akin -
As a retiree, professional travel is something I've pretty well eliminated but if you do ever happen to find yourself in the Niagara region, drop me a DM in this community and we could meet for a coffee!
