Very recently, one of my senior colleagues reach out to me to ask about PMP.
I was glad responding and once again felt that PMP is something valuable. What reminds you of the value of PMP? Saving Changes...
For me, the value of the PMP goes far beyond the certificate itself. It represents:
- A globally recognized standard, a professional passport that connects us with peers and opportunities across industries and continents.
- A shared language and disciplined mindset that helps us approach projects more effectively and efficiently, turning complexity into clarity and consistent results.
- A lifelong commitment to ethics, learning, and leadership, which continues long after the exam is over.
Every time I collaborate with professionals from different countries, I’m reminded that PMP is not just a title, it’s a global community of practice built on trust, excellence, and shared purpose.

Thanks Sir, and you are one of the shining beacons of the gold standard
I am reminded of the perceived value whenever I see folks posting questions about the exam, PMI or its partners marketing training courses, and folks including the certification in their signature lines.
I am reminded of the real value when I look at my bank account.

Great question, Michael. For me, the true value of PMP shows every time structured thinking turns chaos into clarity. Applying a shared language and disciplined mindset that helps align teams, manage uncertainty, and deliver real outcomes. I’m reminded of its worth whenever I see how the PMP principles bring confidence and consistency to complex projects.

PMP goes beyond nations and corporations; it connects humans across the globe. It provides a community to belong to and is embedded in an even wider community of PMI members.
Someone without a PMP certification may have all the knowledge or more than someone with it, so I don't feel the value is necessarily a measure of competency. I do however see that the majority of job postings for PM positions as well as technical leadership roles include, "PMP or equivalent" as either required or desired qualifications. The value in my mind is that having that 3-letter credential opens lots of doors by helping pass the screening process to get the interview where you have a better opportunity to explain your actual competency in detail.

If you are talking about the certification, the only thing it is valuable it is requested in some place as a requirement to get a new job. The certification is too far to make you somebody mature to manage a project.
