I hope you’re all well. I’ve recently begun building my path in project management and am eager to learn and grow, especially in Puerto Rico, while also appreciating insights from professionals around the world.

With experience in legal and organizational settings, I’ve built strong administrative, business development, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Now I’m focusing on resilience, strategic value delivery, and effective project management. Therefore, if you’re working in project management in Puerto Rico (or know someone on the island) and willing to spare a brief 15-minute chat, and offer any advice, it would definitely be appreciated. I’m also open to learning from professionals beyond the island; diverse perspectives can help me build a stronger foundation. Thank you for any suggestions, pointers, or introductions. Looking forward to meaningful connections.

Welcome, José! It’s great to see your enthusiasm for growing in project management. I started my own journey by connecting with professionals through my local PMI Chapter and found those conversations invaluable, both for learning and for uncovering opportunities I hadn’t considered.

You already have a strong foundation in analytical and organizational skills, which transfer beautifully into PM roles. My suggestion would be to keep building your network locally (PMI Puerto Rico is very active) and engage globally here, you’ll find this community generous with advice and support. You’re on the right track!

Welcome, Jose! Welcome to the PMI community. Like others, I recommend that you connect with your local chapter to network there. You can also network more globally on this platform. I, too, am trying to expand my contacts and develop project knowledge and skills! Best of luck, and I look forward to learning with you!

Thank you all for your encouraging words and advice. I really appreciate your perspective and will continue growing my network both locally in Puerto Rico and globally through this community for further possibilities.

If you happen to know of any virtual meetups, discussion groups, or professionals outside the island who are open to supporting newcomers like myself, I would be grateful for any introductions or suggestions.

Thanks again for your support, looking forward to staying connected

Jose,
welcome to the PM community.

When I searched LinkedIn for Puerto Rico, many people came up, some still residing there, some with other connections to your island. Sharing names is not a good idea in a public space like this.

The local chapter is certainly a must-visit place. Please also consider conferences of PMI or other Chapters in your area. Meeting people in person is an experience that surpasses virtual interactions.

Get a mentor. You can also look into mentoring programs offered by other chapters; some may require you to become a member. I can recommend the South Africa and Poland Chapters.
Consider (virtual) volunteering; many Chapters offer opportunities through PMI's system https://volunteer.pmi.org/.

Grow your virtual networks, maintain an interesting profile with a professional headshot, and post/comment/share. LinkedIn is a must; this site here is good for PMI members.
