Hi Gang,

I am curious if PMI has ever done ANY marketing for their two elite certificates?
I recently attained my PgMP and have found that several organizations I interviewed with had no idea what it was. Everyone seems to know PMP, but beyond that, nothing!

I think it would serve PMI and all its members well if they did some promotion of those certs.

Scott, I have both credentials, and I agree with you. PMI should put more effort on marketing those credentials.

That’s a great point, Scott. I’ve noticed the same, while PMP is widely recognized, PgMP and PfMP often fly under the radar, even among senior leaders. In my experience, these certifications add tremendous value by emphasizing strategic alignment and portfolio governance, but the awareness gap limits their impact. It would be great if PMI promoted more success stories or case studies showing how PgMP and PfMP holders drive organizational results.

Have you come across any effective ways individuals or companies have helped raise visibility for these certifications?

Trying to get some of them it is a wasted of time. Proven of it is to search requirements of both in the market. Additional to read and understand the PMI´s books related to both certifications.

I completely relate. I hold both PMP and PgMP, and I’ve faced the same experience where most organizations aren’t familiar with PgMP. The numbers tell the story: there are millions of PMP-certified professionals, whereas PgMP holders are in the thousands. This huge difference explains why awareness is low. I agree that PMI could do more promotion of its advanced certifications to help organizations recognize their value and encourage more professionals to pursue them.
