One has to wonder if Project Managers are ready for the $11 Trillion Internet Of Things, Big Data And Pattern Of Life (POL) Analytics era that is just beginning. Think about all those projects and all that new technology?

Do you mean technologically ready? Or ready for the onslaught?

@ Ganesh - I think we live and function in a technology intensive world that is evolving faster then any other period in history. That being the case, I can see no alternative but for PMs to adopt a continuous education mentality that must include monthly updates (at least 2 CEUs) ) on some new technology that is directly related to their work!

Each is a separate sort of readiness. I suppose in preparation for the onslaught, we ought to stockpile lots of coffee! :-) It could become a very busy few years for PMs who show prowess at their craft.

In terms of technologically ready, I'm not sure the world is ever ready for what technology brings...either that, or we've been waiting, I can't ever get that one settled for myself.

I've seen many PMs who feel they must appear to be experts in the specific subjects where their projects take place. I think they will be handi-capped. I find it better to gain knowledge and expertise as the project progresses (which is not to say upfront study and learning isn't necessary). However, engaging the project team, trusting subject matter experts, creating buy-in during the planning and scheduling process is vital and will be more vital as the internet of things explodes into various business gambles.

Good question!
