IT areas are shifting from control focused models to value and flow focused governance. AI automation and cloud demand faster decisions and shared ownership. Governance now emphasizes guardrails not gates. PMs work closer with IT to balance speed risk and outcomes. Key challenges include skills change data trust and accountability clarity.

IT governance is moving from heavy control to clear guardrails that enable speed without losing accountability. With AI, cloud, and DevSecOps, decisions happen closer to delivery, so PMs and IT need tighter collaboration around risk, value, and outcomes, not just compliance. The biggest challenges I notice are skills evolution, data trust, and keeping accountability clear in more autonomous models.

Hola Dora.

AI / cloud / DevSecOps isn’t “reducing governance”, it’s pushing governance to evolve into something continuous, automated, and auditable!

In practice, what I’ve seen work is shifting from “manual reviews” to..

  1. Guardrails as Code (identity boundaries / landing zone / policy enforcement embedded in delivery)
  2. Evidence by default (logs, traceability, and measurable controls — so audit readiness becomes a by-product, not a scramble)
  3. Clear ownership across product / platform / security — otherwise speed increases, but accountability gets blurry.
From a PM perspective, the relationship with IT is also changing: we’re increasingly managing risk, controls, and outcomes alongside scope/timeline — aligning delivery with governance, not treating them as trade-offs.

Curious in your experience: which governance challenge is the most painful today — identity, data, or change velocity?

IT teams are moving from strict control to supporting speed, value, and safety because of AI, automation, cloud, and DevSecOps. Key challenges include data security, shared responsibility, and keeping control while moving fast. Today, IT and project teams work more closely, focusing together on delivery, risk, and business results.
