How did you transition from being a regular PM to become a ScrumMaster or Product Owner?

Steps?

Hi Arlene!

That's a pretty open and personal question. In a way that each PM might have his/her own steps towards becoming and agile practitioner and and agile facilitator as a SM or an agile PO.

Personally I think that the main issue to achieve when entering the agile land coming from a traditional or waterfall background is to have an open mind. To allow all the newly learned and practiced agility take its natural course. To trust that the persons involved will perform as expected as long as they have the trusting environment that an agile project offers.

It's not that easy to be able to "trust" that the team will be up to the challenge and perform great even though they'd be the only ones that will be "controlling" their work. committing deadlines and saying "what" they'll be doing workwise.

Once you change your working mind from "manager" to "facilitator"... most of the work is done. After this you just relax and help the team do their work and collect success after success. :)
