Hi all,

I'm wondering who here has read PMI's Business Analysis for Practitioners: A Practice Guide. What are your thoughts on it? Did you feel that it provides valuable information? What type of audience does it attract?

Thanks for your input!

I absolutely love that it is full of practical examples and my absolute favorite parts are the collaboration points between the PM and BA sprinkled throughout the guide!

I've conducted a few webinars on the practice guide and the PMI-PBA certificate and it attracts the hybrid PM/BAs, BAs and PMs. I can see how this guide would be particularly attractive to the hybrid PM/BAs, because of the collaboration points.

I also appreciate the common use of terminology between this guide and the PMBOK. When going through BABOK V3, there is terminology that doesn't align with the PMBOK which can sometimes make it difficult for PMs and BAs to communicate if they're speaking different languages.

It is a good piece of work. Mainly about practice more than theory. If you are start working as BA take a look at IIBA´s BABOK V2 (not V3).

The Business Analysis practice guide is simple to understand especially the overall flow of each domain. Simplicity is the key. After getting flow of each domain one can refer recommended books for greater insight of tools and techniques.

Another significant part is collaboration points between project manager and business analyst, that makes PMI-PBA a unique product. The main focus in defining collaboration points is to avoid duplication of efforts between PM and BA, however there is greater emphasis on business need and strategy along with benefits and value in PMP changes 2015, that doesn't reflect properly in business analysis practice guide in terms of collaboration points

I found it very interesting indeed but I regret the approach: domain-based rather than process-based like in all other standard guides. I wonder whether PMI is thinking about it.

It's a great bridge between the PMBOK and the business analysis practice. It will be a great foundation for the upcoming business analysis standard.

I'm not all the way through it yet, but what parts I have finished have been well done.
