Does anyone use or know of a project prioritization tool, that is flexible and functional? We are working build one in Excel, but my concerns are functionality and ease of use. Any thoughts shared would be greatly appreciated

Hi Joshua

What is it you're prioritizing? Assignments all the way through (resource allocation) or projects (as in portfolio selection)?

The tool should be appropriately sized. Being a Microsoft Project Server Specialist I know that every organization needs to identify their needs and determine the use cases. Then you can find and possibly customize a solution. It must not be too small or too big and should allow to be adjusted when requirements change.

If suitable: In Project Server (or Project Online) there are Enterprise Resource Pools for allocating and optimizing shared resources and portfolio selection by rating initiatives against identified and weighed business drivers.

Christina,

We are looking for a way to prioritize projects, as a portfolio. I agree that we should have a tool that meets the demands from size for our organization, but so far I have been unable to find anything. As a company, overall, we are implementing the use of PPM through Oracle. However, the system we will be using does not have the function of managing the "big picture" and assist resources with prioritization. Currently we work off of an Excel based spreadsheet, but I am looking for something that is functional, and that can be used in real time.

OK, then you might want to check out Oracle Portfolio Analysis. :)
