Hello everyone. I'm PMP certified and am looking to transition from the classroom to project management. I handle accreditation programmes at work, which have given me extensive project management experience. The problem is that all the positions I have seen need some experience in corporate.

I just would like to learn from those who have transitioned to corporate, how they managed the transition; and what additional certifications, if any, are required.

Mamonyaka, majority of what we do in project management relies on soft skills which are transferrable from one industry to another. Experience gained from managing accreditation programs already demonstrates these competencies, even if it wasn’t in a traditional corporate setting. The key is learning how to translate that experience into corporate language,
To make the transition smoother, starting in a Project Coordinator or Associate PM role can be a great entry point. These roles provide exposure to corporate tools, governance structures, and delivery frameworks while allowing you to build corporate experience quickly. With a PMP already in hand, additional certifications are usually not required and hands-on experience, familiarity with tools, and understanding how organizations operate often matter more.

You already have PM experience, it just lives outside the usual corporate labels.
The key is translating your accreditation work into delivery language (scope, stakeholders, risks, outcomes) and being open to an entry point like Project Coordinator or Associate PM. With a PMP, extra certifications matter far less than showing you can operate in a corporate environment.

I have had the opportunity to work in Health Care for the better part of the last 10 years, is this something that might interest you? I found that any project management experience in one industry does translate well into other industries.
