We do hear always that employees should be motivated for better productivity. Yes, its true. they should be motivated. However, I do wonder what should be the limit of this motivation. Shouldn't employee/team member also have their own motivation to succeed and excel in adverse situation.
Own Motivation is a must and everybody should look for that, one way to make people think about that is to ask them to make a plan for their professional growth, with attainable goals and fulfill its word. Saving Changes...

As an effective project manager or organization leader who is managing the project and its members, we need to create a collaborative project environment that is respectful, trusting, and enabling so that project team members will be inspired and committed to work and deliver the project deliverables. PMs need to be present for the team members so that project impediments are removed. and issues are identified and addressed immediately. Saving Changes...

At the same time as per your query regarding limit: As per my opinion, a Project manager should judge the team, and as per the outcome, he should apply motivational techniques. Like may be some people may not perform well even after a lot of motivational things. so this should be assessed at the time of team building for any project. Saving Changes...

Thanks All for your response.
However, I still have a query of handling key resources when they do not get motivated neither they are self motivated. BUT they are key technical resources for the project. This makes a situation tedious for the PM Saving Changes...

While I do think that there should be some self-motivation; I also believe it is the responsibility of the project manager to motivate his/her team to succeed on the project. That requires understanding what motivates team members - maybe it is taking on some leadership responsibilities, learning something new, or getting to work on a very visible project. Of course I do agree that some folks just can't be motivated because they are not interested and are ready to move on (read: out of the organization.) Saving Changes...
