I have successfully obtained my CAPM but I do not have the experience yet to go for my PMP. What is a good role to search for at this point that would fulfill that requirement? What are appropriate job titles for an inexperienced project manager?

Congratulations on earning your Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), Marcus Zimmerman. A good starting point would be roles such as Project Coordinator, Project Analyst, Junior Project Manager, or PMO Analyst. These positions help you gain practical experience in planning, documentation, stakeholder coordination, and reporting, building the experience required for the Project Management Professional (PMP)

As others mentioned, some job titles that do contain the "project" term are also worth exploring: delivery manager, customer success manager, implementation manager, solutions manager... Companies can get very creative in coming up with (at times) fancy names for what has always been a PM.

Congratulations!

The common job titles that could help you gain more project management experience are Project Analyst, Project Coordinator and Associate Project Manager.

You can also lead and manage projects within your own area of expertise and gain valuable experience without the title of a Project Manager. This experience can still contribute to developing your project management skills and may count toward the experience required for PMP.

Also volunteering for roles like project coordinator or project manager within or outside the organization or a PMI Chapter for business improvement initiatives, can significantly help you gain experience to meet PMP qualification requirements. I hope this helps.

Marcus - Congratulations on obtaining your CAPM! I see that you are located in Texas, I recommend that you look into your local PMI Chapter, and attend the next meeting. While you are at the meeting introduce your self and you will start to make contacts in the local Project Management arena. Good luck.

My recommendation is practice. Then, if you do not find a project in your work place go to the most near PMI chapter and go to work in projects started in the chapter.
If you do not want to switch your job maybe you can pick a community project and work on that to get your hands on experience. Best of Luck !!!
