Me working as a operations manager in a telecom industry.
Sharing of resources between several projects I am handling will always be plus point in all respect. But there arises many issues between PMs. How to handle this? Any suggestions?
Sharing of resources between projects\PMs is the most frustrating thing I came across as a Operations manager.” Not only do you have to track and allocate one project's resources time you have to monitor someone other project's timelines to keep the productivity level at par.
Communication, coordination, and negotiation. Make sure the other mgrs are aware of your critical path, and you should be aware of their resource reqts as well. Saving Changes...

Plan for short term (say for each week). Best is to use a resource histogram along with schedule plan. Do this for all project and publish this together for other manager to view and plan for resource usage. This way each manager can set his priority tasks and possibly this might avoid conflicts as well among managers. Saving Changes...

Have a clear calendar for all your resources which will show engagements and availability. Engage with PMs on regular basis to ensure they understand the constraints on resources and also try to find out from them well head of their needs or publishing your calendar on a regular basis which you should make available to them.
There are instances when a resource that is highly need is engaged elsewhere; this is where good communication and negotiation comes in; liaise with the various projects and resolve accordingly

I do share the resources in project and it is essentially the responsibility of the PM to ensure effective use of resources. The engagement level must be defined clearly. Also it is based to use as service provider and customer relation among teams. Saving Changes...
