Everybody writes about leadership, motivation, engagement and how a project manager has and needs to do that with the team he is leading, but how can he (or she) do that for him, where he will find motivation to him ? Saving Changes...

The biggest motivation for project manager is the "respect" he/she can earn by making project a success. This respect inturn give him/her a self respect , satisfaction, feels proud, happy, superior position among peers. Which inturn again in ingredient for motivation.

A Project Manager is going to be motivated if the project environment that he has created or created by senior leadership is motivating for team members ...This will create a fractal and domino effect in the organization.
a. Team Members are empowered and encouraged to deliver their work without micromanagement
b. Trust, openness, and accountability are present in the environment. Yes, mutual respect and mutual support are very important.
c. There is Clarity of Roles and Responsibilities, Team Values, and Working Agreement .
d. Team Members are aware of project vision, mission, and mission tests/objectives.
e. Project Owner and all team members are engaged and committed to project success. Saving Changes...
I am assuming that to perfom it he will need to have 3main behaviors:
- Emotional Inteligence
- Resilience and
- Ambition

Treat the project as if it was your own business.
The scope, budget and schedule and vary greatly from project to project and industry to industry. In all cases, the motivator for the Project Manager is to plan, execute, deliver and support the project deliverables. Consider the PMP as your Business Plan and execute the project as if it was your business.

For me Motivation comes from your To-Do List and when you tick thats the ultimate feel.
Anything i mark as Complete / Closed / Resolve brings a great feel that motivates me and move on.

As a Project Leader you need to focus on continual growth and development.
You may need to consider that you might need to find a mentor(s), coach or sponsor to help you grow as a leader as you begin to lead more complex project, programs and portfolios.
