With no offence, and taking into account that English is not my first language, please let me say that one of the worst things I find in our profession which helps to create a lot of confusion into the market is to use the word "agile" as an adjective and talk about "agile project management", "agile project manager", "agile requirements management", etc. etc. I fully believe and I can sustain that it is not right. For example, you have project management defined by the PMI that you can apply with different life cycles or approach (waterfall, iterative, risk oriented, etc) but that is not mean that you have "agile project management". I think we need to stop to use this type of way to name things.

Great article by Rick Freedman over at DZone on it - https://dzone.com/articles/the-core-idea-of-agile - he thinks (as does Jim Highsmith which is where Rick got the idea) (and I agree too) that the word adaptive is actually more appropriate. In the last section of our book (written before I read Rick''s article) we talked about a time when we would stop using the word agile as it was simply how everyone thought about and approached what they did.

In his endorsement of our book, Dr. Alistair Cockburn (co-author of the Manifesto) said that he considered what we created to be "the first properly "post-agile" structure for us to use. We original agilists advocated delivering value, but stopped there. Larry and Jen show us how to handle the consequences: to deliver, operate and measure value. Operations is the logical consequence of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery. Props to them for having articulated it so clearly."

So, Sergio, there are others who fully support your thinking on this one.

@Parag - actually I'll be giving a webinar called "Are you an Agile project manager or an Agile project leader? And why does that question matter?" in early December. Come find out why that question matters :). The date/time should be posted in a day or two.

Hello my dear friend Sergio!

As always, you help us all think and debate very interesting agile related issues.

I agree with some of the comments.
And I also think that there can be a good use of the "agile" term as an adjective (nevermind the fact mentioned that it is an adjective:).

I strongly believe that you can apply agile principle to anything.

I also agree that there's a lot of "fashion" use of the term in places and related to many things that are really not agile at all.

I guess we all will have to start trying to let whoever does not know about the correct use of the term, how to use it properly.

Have a great day!
Fede.
