Hi all,
I would really appreciate your opinion on this, when employed and holding a PMP Certification:
1. Who does typically cover PMI's Annual Membership fees, the employer or the employee?
2. What are the pros and cons on renewing or not renewing PMI Membership?
Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Genti,
to my experience, membership is a personal thing and not relevant to specific business, hence it is mostly payed by the individual and not the employer. I have seen the exception that membership is being payed for the one year of certification and if the certification fees are being payed by the employer as part of an education program (then there is a positive business case for membership fees).
Re-certification is also up to the individual in my experience. The payback is that you show over years that you are interested in the profession and developing in it.
Both are depending on your attitude towards the profession and how you want to be seen by future employers, if you stay within the profession.
My attitude always was to regard project management as a personal field of lifelong development. I was not just looking at the short term needs of a project I was just working on or a career step management thought would be appropriate, but how I could benefit and grow for myself.
It is perfectly fine if you chose not to enter the project management profession as an individual, but see it as a tool to stay employed.
Hope this helps.

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for the feedback and for sharing your experience!
I do agree that Project Management and especially PMP Certification - more often than not - does involve the kind of commitment that transcends immediate interests.
My question also explored if today's companies are stepping and responding Continuing Education and Professional Development, which most of the Certifications require. That will be in my opinion a win-win situation and mutually beneficial.
Kind regards,
Genti

Hi Genti.
1. The PMI Membership dues could be payed by the individual or the organization depending on the personnel benefit package that the organization provides. Some organizations provide a professional development allowance for organization memberships.
2. It really depends on the individual on to renew their PMI membership or not. I=
If you take advantage of the benefits of being a PMI member (e.g. review and use posted materials online, attend conferences and meetings, etc.) and has found them useful, then the PMI membership would be of value to you.
If your job or future job is portfolio, program, and project management, risk management, scheduling management, agile management, and business analysis related, then you may want to continue your membership as PMI's website content and the conferences/meetings topics would be helpful to your job.
If you are curious about what is happening in the field of portfolio, program, and project management, PMI would have the latest trends and information on PM updates.
