8 years criteria for PMP Certification eligibility.

linkedin twitter facebook   Testing/Test Management

Hello everyone,

I would like to submit you a doubt concerning the eligibility criteria for PMP certification.

PMP official website lists the following set of requirements (SET B, the one I would rely on):

  • bachelor's degree or higher
  • 36 hours of project management education/training/CAPM certification/PMP prep course
  • 36 months of experience leading projects in the past 8 years.

Currently I would meet first two requirements, but I am a little bit concerned about the third one: I do have 36 months of experience leading projects, but I have started working only 6 years ago; so my question is: do i have to consider those "8 years" as "36 months of experience in the past 8 years of working experience" or "36 months of experience in the past 8 years of 'life' in general "?

Thanks in advance for any contribution.

P.S. I tried to find a similar topic in the community but I didn't find anything similar.

Mario, the 36 months of experience is the total within the last 8 years so if you have 36 months of experience in the past 6 years, or 3 years, you are totally eligible. In other words, as long as your experience is not older than 8 years, then you’re fine. Hope this helps!
