I have decided to get my PfMP certificate, reading around is a bit confusing, am I tested to 3rd edition or 4th . Do I have to study both books.
I read the following : as of mid-2026, the PfMP exam remains based on the Third Edition of the Standard for Portfolio Management, making it the primary study reference for exam success, even though the Fourth Edition is available. The 3rd edition is process-focused, while the 4th edition is principles-based and introduces agile/hybrid, value-driven concepts.

Kevin, I took the exam back in 2019 and it was based off the 3rd edition although the 4th edition was already released at the time.
Not sure if this is still the case. I know PMI are working on revamping the exam questions but I haven’t aware that the exam already changed. They could be injecting new exam questions into their existing pool of questions, hard to tell.

Kevin - I looked at the PMI site and here is the following:
Now in its fourth edition, The Standard for Portfolio Management reflects current practices and has been updated to reflect the evolution of the profession. It is principle-based, making it applicable to a broad range of organizations, regardless of project delivery approach.
I have had the pleasure to visit Perth many years ago, it is a great location.
