I'm currently leading a group of project managements within our PMO and may eventually lead all areas (i.e., business analysts, process analysts, product owners, etc.). My organization isn't expecting or demanding that I become PMO certified, so, while I'm intrigued, I'm unsure of its ROI.

Any feedback or guidance is gladly appreciated!

The ROI of a PMO certification depends on the gap you’re trying to fill.

As you move toward leading a broader team, the challenge shifts to governance, alignment, and value delivery.

A certification can help if you’re looking to structure or transform the PMO.

However, if you’re already operating effectively, the impact may be lower than hands-on experience, cross-functional exposure, and stakeholder management.

Certification is a lever, not a necessity.

What is the main challenge you’re currently facing within your organization?

How do you see a potential certification supporting your goals—whether in your current role or in your longer-term career path?

I agree with Gwenola’s point that the value depends a lot on the individual’s context and objectives.

From my experience, PMO-related knowledge can be very useful for learning, especially for structuring thinking around governance, value delivery, and stakeholder alignment. However, the practical ROI can vary depending on the organization’s maturity, operating model, and how the PMO is positioned.

So my view is: worthwhile for knowledge acquisition, but the ROI will vary by context.

Anthony, for me, it was very valuable as it expanded my knowledge especially in terms of how to setup a new PMO.
