I just earned a Certificate of Project Management online from UCLA's. The course followed the 6th Edition PMBOK based in the the 10 Knowledge Area / 5 Process Group Table. It never covered the 7th Edition of the PMBOK. Does the current pre-July 2026 exam cover the 6th Ed., 7th ed. or BOTH PMBOK's?

Mostly the 7th edition but it also includes aspects of the process groups. There is Process Groups guide.

Thank you for the information. I was afraid that was the case. Looks like I'll be hurriedly looking for an exam prep course to take before the exam switch in July.

I think you better consult with PMI. They can provide more accurate answer.

The PMP exam is not based only on PMBOK 6th or 7th edition. It is based on the Exam Content Outline (ECO) and includes concepts from both.
6th Edition = processes and knowledge areas (still useful)
7th Edition = principles, agile, and value delivery
So, you should study both, but focus mainly on ECO-style scenario questions, not memorizing books.

Now we have the PMBOK 8th Edition. Use the Process Guide for processes, the 8th Edition (Chapters 8 and 9) for processes and their connectivity, and undergo a PMP Prep course from a PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP). Use the PMI ATP library to select one that can meet your unique challenges (be mindful of the new PMP curriculum that starts in June 2026).
If you need more details, connect with me (KDEL is an ATP for the PMP and CAPM).
