Mentoring and counseling are usually thought as synonymous to each other. My personal opinion is they are very different from each other, though they may share some characreristics. What is your opinion about this? Saving Changes...
I feel they are two different concepts and have diverging purposes. They may seem to have some common features but the purpose of mentoring is to lend an empathetic ear to the mentee and let him or her speak out loud and ramble around to find a solution, Mentor just provides encouragement and a bit of direction as if mentee finds his/her own way. Counseling is more directive in nature and you need to treat the person seeking guidance as a subject, he might be advised and guided actively. Mentoring is rather a passive role as compare to counseling. Saving Changes...

Both are different in nature though both are aimed to do good. In counseling, the counselor sits in the opposite side of the table, asking questions or lets the person talk his/her heart. It's a direct process of correcting things.
A mentor holds the hand of the mentee to nurture and polish his/her talents and inherent capabilities, many times without letting feel the mentee, the process. Saving Changes...
