I am considering doing either a PgMP or a PfMP. How should I choose which one to go with?

Aasim, it all depends upon what experience do you have. Kindly have a look at the eligibility requirements for both PgMP and PfMP and you will be able to make out which is tailored for you. Apart from the eligibility requirements, I suppose anyone will more than 3 years of project experience goes for PMP, a PgMP aspirant must have at least 8 years of cumulative experience out of which at least half must be managing programs, remaining may be project experience. For PfMP I suppose someone with executive or strategic experience who has been dealing portfolio of projects and programs, with at least 15 years of overall experience, should apply for it. Now you can decide for yourself what you are cut for.

Thanks for your response Suhail. I found a document on the PMI website comparing all certifications. I am considering going with PfMP.

Here's the next question though: the fee for PfMP is $800 for members. And the first step is a application review. That is done after the payment has been made. Is there any support structure available, ie PfMP professionals who can informally look at an application and suggest changes, addition, modifications and comment otherwise before the app is formally submitted along with the payment.

Take care about the PMI“s plan regarding the future of both certifications. I do not know which are the plan but if you will take one or another try to make some research on it.

Thank you Suhail. I'll ask for your help when I fill the application. I dont plan to do it right away since I'd like to be better prepared when I complete it.

I appreciate the offer.

Thanks for your comment too Sergio.
