I am a student at The University of Sydney and currently conducting research for a report. I am writing under the topic of Leadership/Teamwork. If possible I would like experienced Project Managers to answer the questions below:
1.How do leaders divide there time between "Task-oriented" leadership and "Relationship-oriented" leadership?
2.How do leaders maintain their own well being, while constantly dealing with the problems and management of others?
3.In a group/team is making yourself known as the leaders and presenting a very authoritative figure beneficial or is it better to make yourself "see eye to eye" with your other team members?

Well, you are posting here as anonymous; i guess you could not await much feedback though ...
however i will try to answer your questions:
1. freely based on Pareto 20 (Tasks) / 80 (Relationship) ... i would say ...
2. Well, doing sports, eating and living healthy and maintain a distance to ohters problems
3. This is heavily adicted to the other person and the situation; sometimes you have to be the tough leader and sometimes you have to be emphatic ...sehr is no general answer to this question i guess ....
Hope it helps.

1. It is not a matter of dividing tasks and relationships when leading teams. The art of leadership and project management is basically focused on people and relationships. A PM nurtures and leverage relationships so that project tasks can be done. You need to be a strong people person to be a good PM.
2. Leaders maintain their own well being in a variety of ways - for myself, I maintain a set of professional projects as well as personal projects (hobbies, classes, friendships, working out, etc.) for life-work balance.
3. I advocate Situational Leadership and Servant Leadership in managing teams.
Pretty soon as you immerse in the PM world, you will not need to be anonymous anymore. The PM universe from my experience is a diverse group and the PM professionals are very open and accommodating to new and seasoned PMs as well. Saving Changes...
