I would like to learn from the community about the practical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in civil construction projects.

What are the most effective ways to implement AI in areas such as:

  1. Project planning and scheduling
  2. Progress monitoring and reporting
  3. Cost estimation and budget control
  4. Resource allocation and productivity tracking
  5. Risk management and delay prediction
  6. Quality control and safety management
  7. Document control and project administration

Could you please share your experiences, tools, or case studies where AI has helped improve project performance, reduce costs, or enhance decision-making in construction projects?

I look forward to hearing your insights and best practices.

An excellent question.

Two AI-enabled applications that I find particularly promising in construction are the use of drones and digital twins.

Drones combined with AI and computer vision can assess actual work progress by comparing site imagery against BIM models, schedules and planned quantities.
This provides a more objective view of completed work, improving progress measurement, forecasting and early detection of delays.

Digital twins take this a step further. By integrating BIM models, IoT sensors, site data, schedules and cost information, they create a continuously updated representation of the project.
This allows teams to simulate scenarios, anticipate risks and evaluate the impact of changes before issues become critical.

The real opportunity is not simply automating inspections or creating digital replicas.
It is improving the quality, timeliness and usability of the information used to make project decisions.

Ultimately, AI creates value not when it generates more data, but when it helps project teams make better decisions faster and with greater confidence.
