I am working in a number of global project teams and am looking for a way to celebrate success with my remote team members. It is not possible to gather the team physically together and a project gift is not suitable because of local tax issues. I am looking for ideas on how to celebrate as a virtual team, and ensure that the remote people are involved and feel appreciated and valued. What methods do other PMs use for this? Saving Changes...

Many many ways... we would like to recognize and celebrate the efforts of the project team members for sure!
What I have experienced in the past was the Business Owner or Project Sponsor (C-level) would send a note of appreciation to the staff themseleves or to the director of the staff.
Another way would be to mention the project team members on the online newslatter thanking themf or their contribution.
When the project goes live, it would be a welcome thought to add the names of the core team members who helped the project along the way, Saving Changes...

I try to remember, when working on a project, to email team members' supervisors/managers with praise, and I CC the project team member. Saving Changes...

I like to add a bit of fun in celebration. For example people can gather in various video conference rooms and have virtual parties. If the Project Manager can announce some bonus for every team member during the party I am sure everyone will celebrate on a high!

Thank you for your ideas, they are all very useful.
Recognition from others is certainly key and I like the virtual party idea and would have to enlist others to make this successful.
I am still open to other ideas.... Saving Changes...

Cultural differences can be a risk to global project teams, but after project completion, I think celebrating those cultural differences is a great idea. Perhaps consider a cultural exchange swap as a "winding down" activity to celebrate everyone's good work on the project. Saving Changes...

Whether I have had global resources on my projects or if they are all domestic, the PM writing a special thank you note to the group expressing your appreciation for their hard work is always a great way to bring a project to a close. Also, some words from the project customer(s) sent to the team about how the deliverable have helped them in their work or business provides a sense of accomplishment and celebration at the end of a project! I think recognition is very important. One of my favorite recognition items for successful project completion was a hand-written thank you note on nice writing paper. That meant far more to me than wall certificates, and trinkets, and rivaled some of the larger monetary awards. The letters are also easy to send to remote members, and easy to retain in a brag file.
