Hello,

I am currently researching a career change and looking for advice.

For 11 years now I have worked in sales, in various roles and as I am nearing my 40s I feel its time for a complete change.

One area of interest is Project Management. My experience? Not much to be honest. I have been part of projects through work but not 100 percent hands on from start to finish.

I have been looking to study PRINCE 2 and I know i wont walk into a job just with that certification.

Im interested in hearing your thoughts. After completing PRINCE2 would it be beneficial to put myself forward for junior PM work?

Thank you

With or without Prince, you will have the opportunity to launch your project management career by working in a project oriented space as a project assistant or support. Through project mangement immersion, you will be easily exposed to the language and actual practice of project management. If you get employed in an organization where their project management approach is mature already, you can certainly learn a lot also as you will be exposed to project management standards right away,. Participating in PMI chapter meetings or webinars would help a lot also in your PM journey. Being involved in project management discussion boards like this one would be of immense help as well. Getting Prince or PMI certified would also help you knowledge wise in the PM methodology.

Good luck.

Hello,

You can take a look in your local PMI chapter. Volunteering its the best way to start. Also some of them have a mentoring program.

In relation with the certification, I think you can start with CAMP¡

Good luck¡¡
