As social change advocate in social media what is your stake of social media today considering Facebook and LinkedIn and their functionality, is social media properly used?
My little escerpt, social media is just a replicate of what we experience daily, what differs is just the physical contact and the speed which it goes viral. However, the interests remain the same, but objectively they are man's tools for faster and wider reach. The involvement of social media is still the involvement of human beings in world politics, climate change, human rights, economy development etc they are all marred by interest. For example LinkedIn and Facebook are fundamental factors in driving organizational and nations interests, and also relating with others. These social platforms can do more good and damage at the same time to humanity.
The relationship are still the same because of social interest and fighting. The fiercest battles in the world are battles of words which are very rampant on social media whether Facebook or LinkedIn. So much character assassination and deformation and they move at the pace of speed of light. Social media war is like biological missiles because of its rate of spread especially Facebook compare to LinkedIn. However, LinkedIn is more of professional platform than Facebook that is for anything. In triangulation, the interests are same, whether nations, social media (Facebook or LinkedIn). So, the syndromic interest has not changed but just modified to suit the social space.
Again, good thing about this social media whether Facebook or LinkedIn is the relationship they have created among the users. One can relate with someone far in another continent and even have business deal sealed, happens in both. It is a good platform for relationships as individuals and nations. Meanwhile, Facebook tends to be leading in this area because it is more socially inclined than LinkedIn. But products are exhibited and traded on both LinkedIn and Facebook. Even nations tread on bilateral and multilateral business agreement. Diplomatic relations and interests have been carefully harnessed and related with on these platforms. Moreso, they are both platforms, tools for propaganda by nations globally. The rich have used it to enriched themselves by articulating the interests and benefits themselves and also used it to oppress and suppress others. The distinction between them is one is more socially inclined and the other professionally inclined.
In all these the interest of man and nations have not changed, likewise these social media interests, still the same because is man's invention. These are platforms you display all kinds of goods and services because of ease and accessibility to people across the world, why, because of personal interest, especially Facebook, which has ittle restrictions. Human rights are promoted and also breached, because of market strength, people are gaining access to finance which also lead to global reduction of poverty and hunger because of their importance to global system.
In conclusion, we can be better people, society and nations if we understand the importance and instrumentality of this social media technology in our lives and global growth and development, the world will be a better place. We can judiciously use them to promote social justice, climate change, no poverty, zero hunger, human rights, good healthcare delivery, good governance, education etc and goods and services across the globe. Meanwhile, social media can be used to increased our collective global interest instead of being a tool in the hands of the inventors and their nations according to today globalization.
