Hemendra, thanks for answering. You are right that attitude decides your altitude but when coupled with IQ you can have a better altitude. isn't it?

From what I have seen in IT project management, attitude is more critical to success as a PM than IQ. The development team definitely needs lots of brain power, but it is the "attitude" of the PM that holds it all together and keeps it moving toward the goal. That certainly doesn't mean that IQ is unimportant, but I have seen a lot more successful people (of presumably normal IQ) that charm with attitude than lead with sheer knowledge and IQ. I've never seen people kicked off the team for being dumb--although I've wondered about some members at times :-), but I have seen people "shut out" over attitude issues that won't change, on a number of occasions.

I think some of the issue about how attitude and IQ work together, and which leads, is culturally related. I have done a lot of work in the US where sheer intelligence is highly valued and often followed regardless of attitude. I have also spent many years in Japan where the collective IQ of the team is leveraged, and in this context, attitude is king!

Attitude and IQ are not related. You can understand that when you take a training about survival. Please I am not saying IQ is not important. But if you want to survive attitude is the key. And, by the way, organizations start project in order to survive.

Our attitude towards others determines their towards us, while IQ can be developed till age of 16 or 18 I believe, on the contrary attitude can be considered a transferable skill by remaining and exhibiting positive attitude.

I think both are different and both have their own significant values in project management. But in my opinion it is our attitude that helps us to move forward towards project success.
