I would like to learn about Agile methodologies and apply to marketing projects. What resource would you recommend as an introduction to Agile for beginners who are not IT project managers?

Thanks for your help!

1. http://www.agilealliance.org/ has lots of information and resources on Agile.

2. If you type 'agile' on the search box on projectmanagement.com, you can find webinars and articles on Agile as well.

Agile is not IT or software. And agile is not a method or methodology. First of all, understand what agile really is. You can search for the book "Responce Ability". The author is Rick Dove. You can fail if you try to apply agile without understand what it is and the impact you will cause inside your organization if you try to use it. After that, you can see methods like DSDM. Understand that today former agile software development methods like SCRUM or DSDM becomes agile solution delivery methods. Recently I have used SCRUM to deliver a marketing solution.

Hi Sergio - I guess I really am a beginner! I understood that agile is a project management methodology or approach usually used for software development.

I'd be interested to learn more about your experience using SCRUM to deliver a marketing solution. Did you work with a team? Were they also new to SCRUM?

Thanks for your insight. I'll look into Dove's book.

The big question is: why do you need to apply agile? The answer must be driven by your organizational strategy. As for other type of initiatives you have to take into account your enterprise architecture and the type of product you will create. Regarding your enterprise architecture you can use the Tom Peter“s Seven S Model as a checklist to understand if your organization is ready to use agile discipline. But that is because you need to understand what agile discipline really is. The other thing that is critical to take into account is the type of product you will create. Usually, marketing products have a short product life cycle then agile approach usually fits well for this type of products.
After that, you can choose a method to do things. In this case, a method based on agile principles. For example, SCRUM.

Kim,

If I were you, I would start reading Agile for Dummies to get familiar with the Agile terminology, and read about the basics of Agile.

Now that I am familiar with what user story is, Product backlog, Iteration, etc..I would do a search on those terminologies to get more acquainted with what they really are. Scrumalliance website is informative enough.
https://www.scrumalliance.org/

Then I would head to youtube.com and do a search on Agile. Lots of info are there.

If you want to purchase study materials for Agile, I recommend SimpliLearn Agile CBT course, and PMI-ACP exam prep book.

Hope this helps.
