It depends on many factors like
Is the resource really/creating a problem in reaching the project objectives
is the resource really a problem in working as a team
is the resource really have an attitude problem
Is the resource really not showing any signs of improvement after several attempts to give feedback
but before that we need to be sure that we have tried to understand his concerns in all the possible ways and tried to address them but still they proved to be futile.
Thanks

The question lacks relevant context but I agree with Bala, firing should be the last resort after making several reasonable attempts to address any performance or behavior problems directly with the team member unless they are being violent or breaking laws. In larger organizations, you get Human Resources involved and follow their guidance and processes. Saving Changes...

The answer is inside the definition of the word ethic itself. About context most of the organizations have its own code of ethic and you can search on it. Saving Changes...

I apologize, Sergio. What I meant by saying the question lacks relevant context is I believe more information should be provided to determine whether the firing would be ethical or not. With the information provided I imagine the firing might be ethical or it might not be. Saving Changes...

@Sean: I agree with you. So please sorry because it could not be understanding from my post. Ethic is a matter of philosophy and it is a matter for a lot of discussion through centuries. That is because organizations creates its own code of ethic. And as you mention the question has to be answered inside a context that could be the organizational code of ethic. But if we to to the definition of the word ethic you can find ambiguity because it is about ideas about what it is morally good or bad. That is because the organizations create its own code of ethic to clearly define what is ethical inside the organzational context. Saving Changes...

My experience with outright firing is that something so bad happened that intermediary steps were inappropriate. Usually when you have to let go of an employee it''s because you have exhausted all other options, as explained by Bala.
The firing was likely within the corporate code of conduct as such actions usually involve senior management and human resources, as Sean indicated. It is unlikely that both groups would proceed with termination without cause. Saving Changes...
