Is it possible to create an Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) where the child projects use different resource pools?

Not sure if this is the correct place for this, but here is the issue:

I''m trying to create an IMS with multiple sub projects. I have 2 different resource pools that need to stay separated. Some of the projects are internal and others are external. I''ve tried assigning the resource pools at the project level, but for some reason, when I add the sub projects to the master, the resource pools get muddled and combined.

I''m using MS Project 2013 and don''t have access to Project Server.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Patrick

Usually master schedules are used to show resource loads across multiple projects. If you don''t want this, why are you trying to combine them into a master schedule?

I understand the purpose. I have an IMS for internal and external projects with some resources common to both. For financial reasons, I was trying to find a way to keep the resource pools separate. I found my answer though. Thank you for your helpful reply.

Patrick, if you were successful in combining them, I would be interested in the solution.

Stephane,

I ended up with 2 separate plans. One for internal and the other for external. Whenever I tried to combine them, my resource pools also combined. I couldn''t find any way around it. My understanding is that MS Project Server has this capability.

I keep looking for things in Project that I''d expect to be there by default. For example, I expected Project to have built in calendaring that once configured, would allow me to select a calendar with US Federal holidays. Unfortunately, it is not an option.

Thanks for sharing, Patrick. You should be able to build a Project template that would include a calendar will all applicable exceptions.

I have previously created templates with a DBA-specific calendar, where the bulk of the work was done during off-hours.

All you have to do is start your next schedule with the template.
