Great question! For all chapters you receive the benefits of networking, community, opportunities and learning.
Networking with your peers in our profession, meeting thought leaders and learning about their journeys (sometimes with options for mentoring too
Being part of a community of professionals, learning about opportunities and job options in your area
Opportunities to volunteer and add to your own skill set, or practice rarely used skills
Learning, about our profession, about our industry, about others and about ourselves.
I hope you drop in and attend an event and choose to join, it will be worth it. Saving Changes...

Dear Bala,
I always had this feeling that I loved to train and teach. I was not sure if I had it in me though. Joining my local chapter (PMI West Bengal) gave me the opportunity to volunteer as a PM trainer for PMP aspirants. I immensely loved that experience, and in return was lucky to be liked by the trainees. Plus I met passionate volunteers for the PM cause in my chapter, and all of a sudden I had a supporting group of peers.
This emboldened me to take up teaching assignments in a B-School and later with an eLearning company. This also emboldened me to write my first ever PM article, which was accepted by PMI India, and they were kind enough to invite me as a guest speaker for PMI India National Conference 2011. (Incidentally, Karthik Ramamurthy in his official capacity had presented me with a memento after my presentation, one of the proudest moments of my life ).
I am back in construction now, but am very clear about what I am going to do in future, and you may say, I have found the purpose of my life.
This was possible because I made the decision to join my local chapter. Saving Changes...

You will get some good networks through local chapters, as there are many experienced project managers. Also, some professionals can give you some good advice to your current projects because they can look into projects in another angle other than your colleagues. So, why not try to actively participate in your local chapter?
Best Regards,

Other than being able to give back to the PM community by volunteering your time and efforts, you also acquire PDU''s too. Beyond that you can make a difference in growing your PMI chapter presence and impact in your local area and help promote the need for greater PM usage in every aspect of industries and areas throughout where you live.
