Why an organisation would promote PMP certification to its PM team?

More and more business promotes PMP certification for their project manager. For example like Landis & Gyr “The PMP certification validates the experience and know-how we bring to each of our customers.”
Do you have any such insider reason you would be free to share? Business reasons why an organization would want PMP certification for its PM team?

This is similar to the way some companies require certain education levels for a given job and governments require schooling and licensing for some occupations. Some companies are trying to improve the chances for project success by ensuring that their PM team members are all experienced, trained, and using a unified approach by requiring certification.
