More and more business promotes PMP certification for their project manager. For example like Landis & Gyr “The PMP certification validates the experience and know-how we bring to each of our customers.”
Do you have any such insider reason you would be free to share? Business reasons why an organization would want PMP certification for its PM team?

This is similar to the way some companies require certain education levels for a given job and governments require schooling and licensing for some occupations. Some companies are trying to improve the chances for project success by ensuring that their PM team members are all experienced, trained, and using a unified approach by requiring certification. It is simply one way to demonstrate professionalism and expertise which can enhance efficiency and rate of project success.

When your company has to put your résumé in front of a new client, the PMP is a good indicator of achievement and competencies.

Some clients require PMP certified professionals to execute the project, I think that´s a reason for you to consider having them in your company. Also, PMP certification gives professionals a frame and methodology to execute project in an organized way and to monitor and control time, scope and costs being able to report this information back to business, that´s very valuable.

I would think, Luis, that CAPM would be sufficient to ensure that all team members are working within the same framework. PMP is really more valuable for project managers.

Another factor is that beyond demonstrated PM knowledge, a PMP is to perform duties with high ethical standards. The certification is no guarantee, of course, but it indicates the PMP has stated his/her commitment to do so.

In addition, being a PMP obliges the certificate holder to train and earn PDUs. In that way, the company feels more confident that the PMO, composed by varios PMP, stays up to date with Project Management related topics.

@James: Thanks for your comment on integrity. This is key.
@ Eduard: The ongoing training is a guarantee for the organization that its PMP''s PMs are indeed keeping up with other organizations.

In accordance to PMI, when you read inside the hadbook "he PMP recognizes the competence of an individual to perform in the role of a project manager, specifically experience in leading and directing projects". For me, and I could be wrong, it is a matter of market positioning.
