lean six sigma approach

I''m on process for lean six sigma green belt certification. have you applied this approach in the past? what about your experience? have you any suggestion for applying it? thanks in advance for your comments

this is true, the lean six sigma approach generally needs support by organization. At the same time, on the side of the projects we are more free to apply this approach. Personally I use it for improving some process I apply on process management.
For me, the most important aspect is the rigorous methodology used for determining and measuring the issue and analyze the data for finding solutions.

I'm an independent consultant. I have verified that my corporation could indeed sponsor me in my work. So there is less formal ways to approach this if you wish.

Fosco, am a certified Lean six Sigma green belt and as Stephane pointed out, you would need the backing of the organization, not just to complete it but also to be able to implement it within your projects. Some organization have RIGID frameworks and follow specific approached to execution of projects. Fortunately we have some opportunities where we can do projects using Lean Six Sigma or the waterfall. We are now also thinking of bringing in Agile :).
On application front, I would say it has its positives and negatives. One has to be clear on where we use this methodology. We use it mostly on the process side and the rest of the projects including Organization projects are carried out using the standard methodologies. If you follow the principle either using DMAIC or DMADV it should be a cake walk :). Also a Lean six sigma project can result in a IT project using the waterfall method

Most interesting. I'd be interested to see how you implement agile in unison with six sigma. I have had success using it with kanban, as they play off each other nicely.

Steven, sorry if I gave the wrong impression. what I have mentioned was that the process projects would result in developing a new tool or change in service and in such scenario the process project would in itself be done using LSS and during the improve cycle the IT/ IS project would be kicked off. This IS/IT project could then follow an Agile/ waterfall or any other methodology, which could then result in new product/ service to improve the process, which will then continue to be monitored and reported under LSS...just a variation

It has been valuable for studying and improving consulting assessments by applying Six Sigma to assessment scoring to identify assessment errors or discover additional operating information for continuous improvement.

Could principals of Six Sigma be implemented in mining? The goal of mining is to produce tons of ore safely and in and environmentally sustainable fashion. Perhaps this has some overlap with manufacturing?

The knowledge you will gain from the SSGB you can use in any situation. It provided me a different way to look at things and ask "good questions" about process and wasted resources.

Agree strategic management must support it, but if not you can still use it.
My thoughts as a CSSGB, PMP, CISM and scrum master.

Hi Matt, no doubt you can apply it in mining. you can consider both six sigma and lean approach for revising your process and improve them

Well ..- Six Sigma is something to do with measure of quality that strives for near perfection. Its a methodology (explicitly data driven approach) for eliminating defects. From where this data comes is from PMI processes through its integration management KA.
I would let "Sig SIGMA" fall into one of the Tools Techniques of one or more many PMI processes, possibly the QM KA (Quality Management Knowledge Area)
