The knowledge you will gain from the SSGB you can use in any situation. It provided me a different way to look at things and ask "good questions" about process and wasted resources.
Agree strategic management must support it, but if not you can still use it.
My thoughts as a CSSGB, PMP, CISM and scrum master.
thanks Samuel. totally agree Saving Changes...

Could principals of Six Sigma be implemented in mining? The goal of mining is to produce tons of ore safely and in and environmentally sustainable fashion. Perhaps this has some overlap with manufacturing?
Hi Matt, no doubt you can apply it in mining. you can consider both six sigma and lean approach for revising your process and improve them Saving Changes...

Fosco- the Black Belt Certification will be more inclusive of managing green belt work activities and will take a deeper look at many of the quality management tools that you have covered in the Green Belt Certification. Best of luck in your endeavor! Mark Saving Changes...
While your organization may not be ready to embrace or launch a formal lean / six sigma initiative, there is great benefit in learning and applying those methodologies and principles.
The 5 principles of lean are universal in their applicability. It is when organizations, or their leaders, get hung up on a particular tool's usage that trouble arises.
Best of luck! Saving Changes...

Six Sigma is all about structured thinking aiming optmization and problem solving initiative. Though it is crucial for the company sake that the methodology deployment is supported on every level of management, the knowledge is still there, you don't lose it. You can use it (or a portion of it) on a daily basis for several situations even if you are not formally leading a Six Sigma Project. You can use the concepts on personal subjects too, for example, to increase the amount of money you have left by the end of each month.
In practical terms, Green Belt trainings will provide to you essencially the concepts that make the methodology make sense. Black Belt trainings on the other hand will go much deeper on how to use the statistic and quality tools to back up the principles you were introduced on the former certification.
As a tip I'd say it is often the case where project leaders try to apply DMAIC to problems that would go better with a DFSS project, for example. Therefore, it is always beneficial to not overlook the importance of the D-phase. Starting the project in the right direction saves a lot of headaches later on, so always go for a robust problem statement, project objective and scope. Saving Changes...

Hi Fosco,
Do try to find out more on DFSS - Design for Six Sigma and it is mainly for Projects. I have been trying to get my Bronze certification which requires project implementation using the different LSS tools. As noted by some of the other folks, you need organizational backing and support from the management to move this forward. Getting a strong mentor in this helps as well. Please do note that in my training, the instructor told us that LSS does not save you time, instead, you need additional time to get the effort going. However, the whole process of getting to the final result pays off. Wish you all the best in this journey. Saving Changes...
Six Sigma, in general terms, is a great methodology to give you a broad perspective about how to resolve quality problems using the DMAIC methodology. Saving Changes...

Yes. Six Sigma and Lean have the same goal of eliminating waste and create the most efficient process/system possible. What makes the two different is the approach.
An integrated approach of the two is the common practice nowadays.
If a "statistical approach" is needed to minimize defects and variation, resolve quality problems, Six Sigma provides a structured data-driven methodology with tools and techniques that you can use to measure their performance both before and after Six Sigma projects.
Using Six Sigma, you can measure the baseline performance of processes and determine the root causes of variations in any process – from manufacturing to transactional and from product to service like BPOs, financial institutions, etc.
For example, what drives CSAT (Customer Satisfaction)? Is it FCR (First Call Resolution) or other metrics? You use Six Sigma approach for key driver analysis for CSAT. Saving Changes...
