In this Digital Era, what are the new challenges for the Project Managers & how they can overcome those challenges?
One challenge I could see is that customer is looking for Speed on providing solution to them. Unless team is equipped with required technical / functional knowledge then meeting this demand would not be possible. PMs can move towards models like DevOps to meet customer''s demand on Speed.

I see communications. We are using more instant messaging so we are pressed with instant response. There could also be information overload, as information does not need to come from human report but machines can also auto generate report, and machines don''t need to sleep. Global cooperation seems easier but there are also new barriers such as understanding different culture and time-zone. So in PM time-management we may not be looking at 8 working hours per day but potentially 24/7. Saving Changes...

Time management and focussing on work are clearly challenges in these times.
As Dominic pointed out already, over the past years the expectations on availability for feedback in communication have significantly increased. This leads to a much higher fragmentation of work, more interruptions and less focus time.
In many cases "multi-tasking" is the resulting working style. The impact of multi-tasking is said to be quite significant on the negative side. Permanent multi-tasking will decrease efficiency by approximately 60% while increasing the rate of errors by 40%.
We need to be mindful about our time, manage it properly and clearly separate the urgent from the important. This will help us to put the limited resource of time where it is needed most: With the important tasks. Saving Changes...
Millenials will be pushing forward what Dominic and Andreas explained. Millenials are the ones who gladly give up their privacy for the possiblities of connectedness and sharing knowledge. They will truly usher a different working world. Saving Changes...

In this era of Digital disruption, in my idea the shift from Product / Project centricity to customer centricity is most important. It is very important that the Project Manager keeps a tab on the business value that he is providing while operating within the iron triangle of Cost, Scope and schedule

I agree with you as sometimes the project is a success on quality assurance and scope validation point of you but the customer is not happy with the end result and overall project is a failure

Utilization of the new technology became more popular by all companies, one of the project management inputs/Tools is to assess culture impact on the project. Saving Changes...
As business transitions toward more 'idea' management and away from 'thing' management, the ability to work from anywhere will continue to integrate into business. The concept of 'always available' will gradually diminish, to be replaced with being valued for the work done being meaningful. In projects, greater focus will be found in business value and measurement by business objective. The technical metrics of time, cost and scope will remain, but will be seen to be a more supportive role. Saving Changes...

I am afraid that current generations might be very fragile (mentally and physically - the ways they value responsibility, the ways they eat or other unhealthy habits, the ways they sit when using modern devices, etc.) and most of the young people of this century need the inspiration and guidance provided by educators and leaders. Someone to remind them to keep their heads up, to straighten their backs (and give them back up, heh), someone to open their eyes and minds and teach them how to take matters into their own hands.
Reality is so fragmented and technology has provided the means to manipulate and intertwine all dimensions. Even though humanity is more connected now to information and knowledge than it has ever been, it is becoming harder and harder for people to clearly distinguish truth from lie/misinformation. Also, the virtual world in which young people seek more and more refuge, their dedication to their virtual identity (social media profiles) and also their commitment to their virtual anonymity (they see the internet as a space where they own some sort of freedom, where they still have the liberty to express parts of their true nature, an artificial land on which they can govern their own selves) are signaling the mental states in which the adults and citizens of tomorrow might function.
Here is where leaders ignite the transition of social evolution, by sustaining individual development. They will bring up together the people that might isolate themselves into digital reality in the future, and reconnect them with hope in humanity, with the exploration of humanity's virtues wielding upcoming revolutionary technology. The ideal leaders of the future should shape the agents of positive change; they not only have the power to connect people, but they can bring up the best in different and unique people inside collective environments, by synchronizing their individual potential with their collective work practices, in order to surpass not only the objectives of the project, but for the team to surpass itself.
As a project manager (a collector and transmitter of information, a coordinator of teamwork that relies on vision, direction, clear communication and adequate planning and execution), future challenges might reside in such fields: Innovation, WWW, Globalization, Demography, HR, Risk and Conflict Management and dealing with organizational transition and change.
But as a leader, one must join science and art together, for one aims to use both material tools and human energy and emotions. True leaders are avid readers of human beings, they see behind social-masks and beyond relationships based on superficial formality. They are like parents, eager to sacrifice themselves to provide the best climate and resources for their teams to face such an unstable world. They are creators of inspiration and human bounds and also alchemists of resources.
These are my thoughts and ideals. Oh, and please excuse my grammatical errors. Saving Changes...
