I self-prepared with Rita''s book and that''s all I needed. Follow all the tips that are in there and practice! I read some advices from other people that have passed and presented the exam. What I did was:
1. On the first 15 minutes (Tutorial) write down whatever you think it is important for you to remember (processes, formulas, ideas, etc). This will make things easier because after you begin the exam you don''t have to remember anything (you already refresh your mind). If needed, just check your notes.
2. Don''t stress yourself checking out constantly the time and questions answered. When I took online exams to practice, I completed the exams in about 2:30. The real exam took me 3:27 25 minutes reviewing the questions I have marked to review at the end. Just take your time.
3. It is normal to feel tired. Take a few seconds to close your eyes and to breathe. This will help you relax. Keep going!
4. When you click on the Finish button: Smile big and celebrate!
My result: Proficient level in 4 domains and Moderarely Proficient in the remaining one.

There are plenty of materials available online but i caution you to stick to some legitimate because all of those materials may not have the same difficulty as the real exam and they may not be as per the latest syllabus.
Regarding books Rita and PMBOK should be enough .
I am not sure if you are aware of the syllabus change starting from next year and more information can be found on pmi.org

Thanks

Off course you can pass the exam with self study. However, you would be needing a solid study plan and authentic guidance to make the best out of it.

Hello Darush,

i did PMP via self-studying and believe me, if i can do it everyone can ... ;)

Because i used it by myself for PMP preparation, i recommend you the “PMP PrepCast by Cornelius Fichtner”.

It is a fully prerecorded (nearly 140 video and audio lessons!), self-paced online training course which also provides you the 35 contact hour certificate, which you will need for your PMP Application.
You may have a look here: ? http://wren.cf/2t

To get a glimpse of what you could await, there is a free version available also: Free Prep Cast - http://wren.cf/2u

I would also like to refer you to our website where you can find a lot of information about how to earn PMP, how to kickstart your PMP preparation, how to create your own study plan and a lot more ...

Please don''t hesitate to ask any further questions.

Hello Darush,

When I did my PMP self-study, PMBok 5th edition and Rita 8th edition is fairly enough, as they provide you a clear understanding. More material may get yourself confuse.

Good luck in your exam!

Yes you can do it with self study.
My case was, I developed an study plan and try to stick to it. Not always was possible, but when i failed to a study session, I recovered the pending hours out of the schedule time.

My perception was that the questions on the real Test, were way easier that the ones I studied.
I made some like 10 simulations of 30-50 questions and at least 4-6 simulations of 200 question time controlled. I simulated the testing room conditions (only 4 sheets of paper, four pencils, and no time allowed for taking breaks.

Good Luck!

@Julian:
from my experience it is alowed to take a break (e.g. for something to drink or eat) but you have to leave the exam room and exam clock is still ticking. And you have to run through security processes when you leave the exam room as well as you enter it after your break what is extremly time consuming. So you have to calculate for a 5 Minute break somewhat about 15 to 20 Minutes in total.
I have managed it without taking any breaks and if you got a good slepp the night before, drunk some water right before the exam (not too many!) and eat some banana or something like that, than you can easily do it without taking a break.
Just my 2 cents ....

Yes you can pass the test with self study. I did it. I used PMBOK and Rita Mulcahy 8th edition. I also took practice quizzes/exams from O''Reilly before taking the exam to get comfortable sitting for long periods of time. Too many sites and too many exam resources can definitely confuse you and preparation will easily become overwhelming. Keep it simple and you will be fine. Best wishes!
