There are some places where the work cannot be done unless you pay bribes to local authorities. What is the best possible way to handle such situations?

It is not a project manager decision. In my case, besides my personal opinion, I have suscribe and I believe in the code of ethic the organization I am working has created and the organization give all needed to face this type of situations to me, that, by the way, are inaceptable.

It is unfortunate that in some places in these worlds, people cannot get things done in a timely manner without giving undocumented or illegal money. Personally, I think if it takes a few extra days to complete a task without bribe you should put the time/duration into consideration when drafting your scope.

Bribe can be in any format not necessarily monetary, we have in the past always handled it via the organization where we work. The legal teams within the organization will tell you how to proceed. So as Sergio has also pointed out, align with the organization on how to proceed

No-one officially support you for bribe but unofficially no-one want to lose business. I agree with everyone and in my opinion bribe is a monster who fails good practices in the market. But it exists and how to fight with this was my question !!!!

Sergio alludes to code of ethics. You have to abide by your company's code of ethics. Additionally, you have to adhere to PMI's code as well, as a certification holder.

It is a good question with no easy answer. My company's code of ethics does not allow me to engage a local company to do the dirty deeds at arm's length.

As Adeyemi points out, you have to put it in your risk register and change your schedule to allow for the delays. Of course, nothing stops you from building relations with officials who could help you out without monetary compensation.

I 100% agree with you. One more question over it. If you know someone else is doing it on your behalf which is well known to your reporting manager. How to tackle in that case? There is no whistle blower policy in company. You know that these are the tactics which are being followed in that region by all other companies and also by your company in other projects.
