Are you saying that you acting as a resource manager not as a project manager and absolutely not assigning any work to those resources?
If that is the case you still need to do ,i wouldn''t say you need to be motivated but you need to do as a part of your job and your organization policy.
Thanks

Bala is correct, Vikash. Unless you are being paid by the client yourself, you are in fact only a resource manager. Your job is to provide people that meet the client''s needs. You may have to do training, have backup resources available and manage their performance. You will want to have regular talks with the the client work manager to ensure the resources are satisfying their needs. Saving Changes...
Thanks for your suggestion. But my question still remains same, how to keep self motivated being as Resource Manager, having more than 10 years of experience in Project Management. Being as Resource Manager, i do not think it require much project management skill. Hence in due course of time, i am sure, person will start getting demotivated. But if that person is able to keep doing something to keep himself motivated, then nothing would be better than this.
Please share your expert advise around the same Saving Changes...

One question not clear in your situation is, are you the owner of the resources? Are these full-time staff in your company, or are these contractors? There are many variations due to different scenarios, and project management skills can still apply in many situations. As for your self motivation, it depends on your skill set and career interest, and also personnel arrangement with your boss. Saving Changes...

Coming straight to the point -
Like I said having interest in what we do can be a prime factor to get motivation but in all the cases it may not be possible to do what we are interested in or vice-versa because we are bound by the organization policies/requirements and nothing else we can do other than what we are expected to do.
If you are performing activities other than just providing resources and based on your roles and responsibilities as a resource manager you are still responsible for the career growth of the resources in terms of providing proper training for soft skills, project related skills and doing performance management .What more you need other than tasting the success in the form of your resources growth(by carefully guiding them) to be motivated. In my opinion, value addition is the best self motivating factor. If you have time and resources, then go for higher knowledge / certifications / training etc. for yourself as well as your staff. This way, not only you shall remain interested in your work area, but can also diversify... Saving Changes...

Vikash, just because you have ten years of project management experience does not mean every job needs to be about doing project management.
I have well over twenty year of project management experience and I am asked to do project management, business analysis, enterprise architecture, and, yes, resource management.
You motivate yourself by trying to do the best job you can as a resource manager. There is enough work just making sure your resources are competent, busy and happy.
If you still find yourself unfulfilled then I suggest you consider doing volunteer work so you can get your sense of self-actualization you are looking for somewhere else. Saving Changes...
Establish a Win-Win situation. Work to get it set it up so that a successful project results in everyone getting something out of the project. In your case, you need to particularly look for the "Win" for your side, the Resources. Saving Changes...
I really appreciate for the responses shared by you. It indeed a motivating factor for me. I agree that as a Resource Manager, keeping the resource happy, motivated and busy is nothing but a success story for me as well.
Thanks to everyone... Saving Changes...
