I am looking for an easy to use and inexpensive software tool that can help us track and manage resources. We have Project 2000 and do not find it very helpful or easy to use for this. Is e-project something to consider? So many out there seem to be overkill and expensive to use. Thanks.

Im not sure if it's what you're looking for - but there's a product called Vertabase Pro which has some stunning Resource tracking and allocation features...and they're pretty cheap (under 500 per license per year). It's available as a product or an ASP. It's also fully compatible with MS Project.

Their website is vertabasepro.com

hope this helped.

Another tool to look at is I-Schedule from Rational Concepts. 100% web-based and very flexible. About $2000 per concurrent user. May be more expensive than you are looking to spend, but provides a great deal of added functionality including project management process automation.

Try Hydra3 from The Program Management Group. It has particular strenghts in resourcing with its "Pre-emtive Resource Scheduling" It also has a complete integrated timesheet which automatically update plans which automatically reschedules the work.
