Do you have any thoughts or experiences on replacing a homegrown PPM tool with a vendor-provided solution and resulting outcomes or benefits? Thank you!

Not specific about PPM tools, comparing homegrown to vendor solution:
Homegrown: advantages: tailor-made for your need; disadvantages: lack of economies of scale, development time can be longer, need continuous internal support.
Vendor-provided: advantages: more proven as someone else using it; disadvantages: each product may not match your need, cost could be higher if you only need a small portion of a tool.
My suggestion is that it is worth to do an evaluation of different tools option case-by-case. One alternative is to see if a vendor solution allows you to tailor make any modules for your need, so to get the best out of two. Or perhaps some tools use vendor solution, some homegrown.
