I am looking for some resources to help with developing a better standard process for the design team that I manage. We work in a somewhat integrated environment with our content, development, and other teams but are still somewhat in a silo. Have a few ideas on how to approach, but wanted to see if anyone had any other resources out there on this topic.

Hi Matthew. I believe that most of the questions you bring up may be answered in the PMBOK, in chapters 9 and 10.

Chapter 9, Project Human Resource Management , describes the processes involved in the planning, acquisition, development, and management of the project team.

This chapter includes:

Develop Human Resource Plan
Acquire Project Team
Develop Project Team
Manage Project Team.

Chapter 10, Project Communications Management , identifies the processes involved in ensuring timely and appropriate generation, collection, dissemination, storage and ultimate disposition of project information.

This chapter includes:

Identify Stakeholders
Plan Communications
Distribute Information
Manage Stakeholders Expectations
Report Performance

Hi Eduard. Thank you for the input, I will definitely review these sections.

To provide a little more clarity and detail though, I am looking for case studies and real world examples from people managing digital design projects. I tend to find that digital design projects are often scenarios that the rigidity of the PMBOK struggle to give guidance on (admins - please don''t shun me :-)).

The problem with case studies, Matthew, is how well they represent your project. Even if you can come across case studies about digital design projects, you may find that the size, the client or the organization are so different that the opportunities are not applicable to your case.

The PMBOK is a conglomerate of best practices. You use and adapt them as you see fit for your project.
