In my opinion, "construction" is too generic. Specifying what type of construction would be beneficial and draw more hits to your blog. Good luck!

Thank you Eduard, Keeping it as Construction is better because it includes all sorts of construction projects so I inteded to have it generic in this regards.

The idea to create a blog for sharing experiences in a field is great. As Eduard states, perhaps in some regions or countries around the world the term "construction" could be taken with diferent meanings. In my region/country when you say that it will be related to building/houses and this type of things.

I think it is specific enough that you will attract the members that are interested without accidentally attracting those who are not interested in construction and related fields.

John, thanks a lot. Here is what is made me ask this question: I am an experienced professional in Project Management related to Construction Projects so I created this blog to share my thoughts and lessons learned but then I thought about the fact that whatever I write is also applicable to all other sorts of projects. A good example of this is the blog I posted called " Improving Productivity in Projects" which unfortunately it seems that no one read it until now unless there is something wrong and it is not appearing in the blog posting.

Check it our and let me know what u think of the article and if it applies for all projects in principle.

Rami, I see a consistent thread in construction being too generic. Having spent several years working construction as an employee and as a small business owner, I'd agree.

Construction really isn't very generic. The sorts of planning and risk management that go into managing a remodel on a 100 year old house are very distinct from what sort of thinking and problem solving goes into preparing for a concrete structure that will have 300 cement trucks and a crew of 30 setting forms, vibrating concrete and finishing.

On a very generic level, they rely on the same generic PM skills, but from that perspective, there doesn't seem to be much need for a construction blog as opposed to a generic PM blog.

Currently, I work in IT, and I think a generic IT PM blog is also too generic. The skills and expertise required for managing a software development project are distinct from what is needed on an IT infrastructure upgrade or a software implementation. In fact, some software implementations might be more like software development, those with high levels of customization, whereas a COTS solutions will require more process analysis and help supporting user to adopt new habits.

I think you would do well to focus your blog within the wide realm of construction, and then depending on what you are writing, you might examine PM from the aspect of being a program manager of a large construction project, or PM for smaller projects within a program.

For my two cents, if you're looking for the name of a blog, which will have multiple articles, definitely find where you can focus, and tailor your titile with that focus in mind. If you are looking at an article that you're submitting for a blog, then have your title ask an important question that relates to a problem you encountered in the project you are writing about.

"Three ways to bring a project back on schedule when your sub-contractor drops the ball."

"Four questions you should ask potential customers before you agree to build their new office."

etc...

For a blog, it might be: "Steel and Concrete: project management for office buildings"

"The Fire Suppressant: Stories of a PM who fixes houses wired with nob and tube"

"Taking the High Road: Tales of Project Management in road and bridge construction."

Michael, thanks a lot for the detailed feedback. I totally agree with what you said. The problem is that what ever I name my main blog, I can't change it and I can't create another blog name in the future besides the existing one - I can create a new posting but not a new Blog Name so there is no flexibility here. All the names you proposed above will introduce some restrictions on what I am going to share and most of the things apply for all types of projects, I like the last name though.

The other problem is you post everything under one main blog name so people do not really read all the threads. Like for example, Improving Productivity, as far as I am aware, no one noticed it till now. Check it out and let me know what you think, this is the type of knowledge sharing I have in mind.
